{"id":65,"date":"2014-04-03T15:58:46","date_gmt":"2014-04-03T15:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mysite.me.uk\/?page_id=65"},"modified":"2020-07-03T10:16:56","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T10:16:56","slug":"gardening","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mysite.me.uk\/?page_id=65","title":{"rendered":"Gardening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The composite image attempts to provide an overall impression of our garden.\u00a0Although\u00a0 relatively small, it\u00a0is secluded and bordered by a\u00a0two meter high leylandi hedge which, with regular trimming, gives shelter from the wind and frost and provides a lovely green backdrop for a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysite.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/composite2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-263 alignright\" style=\"width: 320px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mysite.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/composite2-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"A composite image of our garden\" width=\"270\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a>ll our plants.<\/p>\n<p>My wife and I\u00a0derive a great deal of pleasure from our flower garden where we like to maintain a mixture of plants, bulbs and flowering shrubs to provide colour and interest throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>I grow black currents, and\u00a0 \u00a0 raspberrys &#8211;\u00a0 a\u00a0 late summer fruiting\u00a0\u00a0primocane\u00a0 giving good yields .It is very easy to maintain &#8211; just cut all the canes back to ground level in December. A crab-apple tree\u00a0 completes the fruit supply. I also grow small patio tomatoes in a builders bucket placed upon another inverted one to raise the cascading tomatoes above ground level.<\/p>\n<p>The vegetable plot is used to grow a selection of vegetables encompassing, potatoes, parsnips, leeks, courgettes, sugar snap peas, and dwarf french beans. From time to time I like to try the odd &#8220;exotic&#8221; vegetable which has encompassed &#8220;elephant garlic&#8221;, &#8220;jerusalem artichokes&#8221;, celeriac \u00a0and butternut squash with mixed success. I started an asparagus bed some years ago which now provides us with an abundance of spears from May through July.
